ECOMALL
Island
The project is located on a 30,000m2 site, on Avenida Bolívar, on Isla de Margarita, in Venezuela.
We developed a project in the city that had traditionally been the largest commercial exchange. For years Venezuelans were going shopping with the benefit of free port. In its origins there were shops on the sides of the streets, as in the busy 4 de Mayo Avenue, these were migrating to large shopping centers and it was losing that dynamic of the walk along the boulevard while you were shopping.
In our proposal we wanted to rescue part of that way of understanding the purchase beyond a simple commercial exchange. We would plant a large central square, protected by a very light wooden roof that extended around its perimeter giving shade to the sidewalks in its long way. The roof would have circular openings in specific places to let the light pass, obtaining a new climatic behavior, supported by a structural system in the form of double needles, that would make the roof float over the commercial low bodies that defined the three commercial levels.
We did not want people to feel that they were going to a mall. The street and the covered plaza were defining elements that would allow social events from various activities beyond the transaction.
